Independent, not the DMV

DMVCA is an independent guide to the California DMV. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the California DMV or any government agency. Official DMV services, transactions, and the authoritative record live at dmv.ca.gov. Nothing here is an official DMV channel, and we cannot process transactions, appointments, or records on the DMV's behalf.

Information only - not advice

The site provides general information about California DMV processes. It is not legal, financial, or professional advice, and not DMV advice. Because this information can affect licences, registration, money, and legal standing:

  • Verify anything that matters directly with the DMV (dmv.ca.gov) before you act.
  • Rules, fees, forms, wait times, and office details change; a page may not reflect the latest change at the moment you read it.
  • Your situation may differ from the general case described.

Accuracy - our commitment, and its honest limit

We take accuracy seriously: our Editorial Standards page describes how pages are sourced to primary, official records and how figures are checked before publication. Fee amounts in particular come from a single source-of-truth schedule, and an automated build check blocks any page that states an amount contradicting it. That enforces internal consistency; it does not guarantee every figure is current, and we make no warranty that all information is accurate, complete, or up to date. External links

The site links to official sources (such as dmv.ca.gov, the California Vehicle Code, and other government pages) and, where useful, to third-party services for directions. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability. A link is not an endorsement.

Advertising

The site carries third-party advertising through Google AdSense, which is how it is paid for. Two things follow, and we would rather state them than leave them to be discovered:

  • The ads involve third-party cookies and data sharing with Google, including your IP address and the page you are viewing. The Privacy Policy describes exactly what is shared and how to limit it.
  • We do not choose, endorse, or vet the individual ads. Google selects them. An ad appearing here is not a recommendation, and we are not responsible for advertisers' products, services, claims, or sites - including any that offer DMV-related help or paperwork services. Treat an ad as an ad, never as our editorial advice, and remember that official DMV transactions are done through dmv.ca.gov, not through us or an advertiser.

Advertising revenue does not influence what we publish or how we rank or describe anything; our Editorial Standards govern the content. Beyond advertising, the site has no affiliate or paid-referral links and earns nothing from outbound links.

Acceptable use and intellectual property

You may read, link to, and share the site for personal, non-commercial use. Please do not scrape or republish it wholesale, misrepresent it as an official DMV channel, or use it to mislead. Original text, layout, and code are the operator's, except for material sourced from government or third parties, which remains theirs; government source documents belong to their respective agencies.

Disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability

The site is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law (see also the Disclaimer). To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or its information, including from errors, omissions, outdated content, or unavailability. Privacy

Use of the site is also governed by the Privacy Policy, which describes the processing involved: Google AdSense advertising, which loads on every page and sets cookies; Cloudflare as host, with no client-side analytics; and OpenStreetMap map tiles only if you click a map. It also sets out your choices, including how to refuse personalised ads.
